Legal News Magazine follows a written code of ethics that governs how we report, write, and correct the news. Every member of our newsroom is expected to follow it.
Accuracy first
We verify facts against primary sources before publication: court opinions, filings, statutes, and on-the-record statements. When facts are disputed or unclear, we say so instead of guessing.
Independence
Our editorial decisions are made by our editors, not by advertisers, sponsors, or sources. We do not accept payment for news coverage, and gifts or favors from sources are prohibited.
Fairness
We give subjects of critical coverage a chance to respond before publication when time permits, and we publish meaningful responses. We do not distort quotes or take statements out of context.
Sourcing and attribution
We attribute information to its source and link to primary documents whenever possible. Anonymous sources are used only when the information is newsworthy and cannot be obtained on the record, and only with editor approval.
Conflicts of interest
Newsroom staff disclose conflicts of interest to their editors and step away from coverage where a conflict exists. Staff may not cover legal matters in which they have a personal or financial stake.
Advertising and sponsored content
Advertising never influences coverage. Sponsored content is always labeled as sponsored and is produced to the same accuracy standards as our journalism.
Corrections
When we err, we correct promptly and transparently, as described on our Corrections page.
